'Stages of Grief' vs Reality

Growtherapy; a Child & Adolescent Mental Health & Wellbeing service shared two important things to remember about grief and loss:


1. Grief is a word we often use to talk about the pain and loss of bereavement but there are many kinds of loss that can lead to feelings of grief that don't involve death. Friends or family moving away, separation and divorce, changes to people, our circumstances, ourselves. Grief can also accompany things we think we should be happy about - for example a change in jobs, a birth, a marriage, and so on.


2. Grief is often talked about using a staged model and we break it up into parts and components to make it feel more manageable to understand and talk about - but we tend to experience it like this:
